April 2022 Vermont Placemaking Meet-Up: Open Streets (Rescheduled!)

It’s the season to get back outside. What better place than our streets?

Come explore how we can open up small town streets to more than just cars. We’ll share ideas and inspiring examples for how to create “open streets” that are places for people, bikes, businesses, games, socializing, and more. We’ll talk about both long-term strategies for creating more inclusive, “complete streets” or permanently closing streets to create pedestrian alleys. We’ll also talk about fun events and activities that take over streets for a day (or more).

This year we’re moving to quarterly meet-ups, so don’t miss out! We’ll still share examples from around the country and feature stories from two Vermont communities. We’ll have extra time for discussion, conversation and networking.

Got a great open streets placemaking example to share? Drop a message or comment with a pic and we'd love to feature it!

MEET-UP resources page: Coming soon

Community Workshop and AARP Vermont are hosting free Placemaking Meet-Ups for anyone working on placemaking or interested in getting started. Each features a different theme, and will be a chance to explore placemaking examples, resources and tools. These meet-ups are a place to share knowledge, problem solve together, get inspired by the work happening across the state, and walk away with actionable projects and ideas.

Placemaking is about strengthening the connection between people and the places. It's about reinventing and re-engaging with public spaces so they are once again the hub of public life.

Please share with us any projects you’ve been working on that incorporate this month's theme. We would love to showcase them during our meet-up. Send a picture and short description to Kelly at kstoddardpoor [@] aarp.org.

Meet-ups are free and open to the public. Virtual meet-ups are held on Zoom and we hope to meet in person for some during 2022.
